Halloween III Season of the Witch (1982)

The tag line for Halloween III is "Witchcraft enters the computer age, and a different terror begins."

The 1982 follow-up "Halloween 3: Season of the Witch" was not successful with fans of the original Halloween or Halloween 2. Myers, the heartless murderer, did not make an appearance, which is obviously one of the most important points.

After making Halloween III, Carpenter hoped to extend the notion of an anthology series, each one presenting a new narrative and being released around Halloween every year. They offered some excellent suggestions, and I wish they would have been given the opportunity to elaborate on them. As it turns out, it wasn't the case.

While still under the care of Dr. Daniel Challis (Tom Atkins), a patient who brought in a Halloween mask is murdered shortly before Halloween.

Dr. Challis and Ellie (Stacey Nelkin), the dead man's daughter, visit the Silver Shamrock in Santa Mira, California. The company's marketing strategy (which includes a catchy melody) has sold millions of masks.

(The Milk Facility is the inspiration for the Silver Shamrock factory.)

In addition, they are instructing children to tune in to a Halloween show while they are dressed in their costumes so that they can watch the program properly. But in the end, Dr. Challis and Ellie are successful. They make the discovery that Conal Cochran, the CEO of Silver Shamrock and played by Dan O'Herlihy, is planning something that, should it be carried out as intended, would result in the deaths of thousands, if not millions, of innocent people.

The characters Michael, Dr. Loomis, and Laurie, as well as the town of Haddonfield, do not appear in any of Halloween 3: Season of the Witch's scenes, save for a few brief ones. In spite of the fact that it is different from the original two installments, this film is a lot of fun to watch.

While it isn't without flaw, the film boasts several noteworthy scenes, the best of which is a scene where Cochran tests his devious plan on the family of Buddy Kupfer, a salesman who, because of his success, was given a V.I.P. tour of the factory.

In Silver Shamrock, we first see Brad Schacter's Little Buddy. He wore a Silver Shamrock mask to a Halloween movie. The program quickly devolves into chaos. Conal Cochran tells the origin of Halloween.

My favorite Halloween series are those that come after Halloween 3: Season of the Witch. Michael Myers appeared in both Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and Halloween V: The Revenge of Michael Myers. However, one wonders what tales may have been presented if John Carpenter and Debra Hill had been able to go on with their original concept for the series.

In my view, the lack of enthusiasm for Halloween 3: Season of the Witch is not the fault of anyone. I think it was the choice of whomever put the number "3" to this picture that caused many to assume it was a sequel to the popular Halloween classic.

Since I liked Halloween 3, Carpenter's entire breakdown is more impossible to stomach.
